THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRIES The federal government of Nigeria has thrown up in the oil and gas, what many might call the best opportunity ever for the ever increasing number of engineers .this act has been initiated since 2004 and made effective in 2006.It is generally known as the local content policy. THE LOCAL CONTENT POLICY This is a policy initiated by the past administration of which the new administration has towed the line. This policy enforces the oil producing companies to carry out their design, construction and installation of oil facility locally using locally sourced manpower but not compromising quality delivery. [These projects were previously done in Houston, Aberdeen and Sydney]. To drive this home, any bidding done for any oil company, by law a specific percentage of the local content must be stated before the bidder is given a consideration (the target is 45% in 2006 and 70% in 2010,for further inquiries, go to google, input ‘Nigerian local content policy’) WHAT DOES THIS SIGNIFY This single act implies that job opportunity in the oil and gas is going to receive a boom ‘this can be substantiated by the recent increment in job opportunity in the oil and gas .visit:www.nnpc.group.com/opportunity.htm. THE LIMITATION Nigeria at its present position does not have the capability in terms of manpower and skill to carryout these huge projects. PTDF in its haste to solve the shortcomings led to their recent advert on skill acquisition through software training on HYSYS, HYSYS UPSTREAM, PDMS, PIPE PHASE …..Etc. of course; going by the usual Nigerian rattmataz, the training would be enjoyed by privileged few. HYSYS TRAINING An uncommon opportunity is being thrown open in surulere lagos and Ugbowo Benin by SIMTEK ltd (oil and gas simulation sciences) .this package is specifically targeted to qualified and interested graduates that are ready to capture the emerging opportunity in the oil and gas industries .the training is to be a 100% hands on (one person, one computer) with a practical interpretation of the software on real projects. Courses; 1 HYSYS and HYSYS UPSTREAM 2 PIPE PHASE 3 PIPE FLOW EXPERT [Note: the training will be based on the first course this season] LEARNING OBJECTIVES  A. building of a state of the art process plants powered by HYSYS B. use of HYSYS in the simulation of oil topside platform system (onshore and offshore) C. simulation of pipeline and piping systems in the manufacturing ,oil and gas industries D. compressor, pumps, boilers and general equipment sizing and rating E. process equipment and pipes validation. F. pipeline sizing and equipment sizing using excel spreadsheet G. use of HYSYS in understanding equipment workability, flash calculation, sensitivity analyses, optimization, etc. H. Introduction to API_RP documents and applications. PREREQUISITE The participant must have completed fluid mechanics/dynamics and thermodynamics in his or her course of study. QUALIFICATION Interested persons must be graduates (employed or unemployed) in one of the following discipline: 1 Chemical Engineering 2 Gas Engineering 3 Petroleum Engineering 4 Production Engineering 5 mechanical Engineering DURATION The training is expected to last a period of 8 weeks .In view of the targeted; the training is to take place only on weekends.
